I made the trip from the UK to Auschwitz Birkenau in Poland during the summer of 2007. What I saw and the emotions it evoked are not so easy to put into words and they will stay with me forever – for the rest of my life. For various reasons it has taken me nearly six years (2013) to publish my thoughts on the trip I made with my partner, which has had a lasting impression on me as it surely would on anyone?

My aim with this site is not to debate or discuss the intricacies and the atrocities of the Holocaust. Nor do I plan to update the site at regular intervals. It serves as a reference point for anyone who finds it. It is also a place for me to post the photos I took and somewhere for me to record my personal feelings. And finally it serves as a memorial to my father’s grandparents (my great grandparents) who almost certainly lost their lives at Auschwitz Birkenau.

I hope you find something to inspire you as you read these pages. Perhaps you will learn a thing or two about Auschwitz Birkenau, surely one of the darkest periods in world history and a stark reminder of what people can do to each other.
